International Advisory Council

History

Formed in 1993, the FC Advisory Council has visited once before in 1997, and at that time prepared a review for UBC on the first 4 years of the Fisheries Centre. Some members of the original 8-member council retired after a 7-year term, and the new council was formed in 2000.

Aims

The main purpose of the meeting is to receive input from the International Advisory Council on the Fisheries Centre's projects and research activities. We are seeking advice from them on how best to proceed in light of our successes and failures, to alert us to opportunities and partnerships that might harness our research abilities and capacity in the future, and to advise how we might maximize the advantages presented by recent phase of expansion including the present search for a new Director and the construction of the CFI-funded Aquatic Ecosystems Research Laboratory, scheduled for completion in 2005.

Scope

Advice from the Advisory Council is sought in the light of the FCs achievements as presented by the researchers, summarized in recent reports, and in response to the points raised in the external review of the Fisheries Centre. All FC members are strongly encouraged to attend and all sessions are open to the public.
