Modelling Antarctic Ecosystems

Preliminary Announcement and Call for Papers

Dates: April 15-17th 2003

Sessions are planned on:


  • Capturing the critical features of Antarctic ecology in models
  • Models of Antarctic Ecosystems
  • Forecasting the impacts of fisheries and climate change on Antarctic Ecosystems
  • Management issues for Antarctic fisheries
  • Mapping the status of Antarctic Ecosystems
  • The focus will be on krill, fish, marine mammals and seabirds.
  • Edited proceedings from the workshop will be published as a Fisheries Centre Research Report (abstracted in ASFA).

UBC Fisheries Centre has block-booked a limited amount of accommodation on the UBC campus for participants in the April 15-17, 2003, workshop on Modelling Antarctic Ecosystems. The accommodation is at St. John's College, at a cost of Cdn$78-100 per night plus taxes. Some meals are included. If you wish to reserve a room at St. John's please do so from their website, mentioning that you are part of the block booking for the workshop. You will be responsible for paying for your own accommodation in addition to the workshop fee of Cdn$300 ($50 with proof of student status). If you prefer to stay elsewhere please make your own arrangements; note that on-campus accommodation is usually quite limited at that time of the year. A list of alternate accommodation is available from office@fisheries.ubc.ca

Registration fee: CAN$300 ($50 for students*).
